One-way bearings can also be called one-way clutches, which means they can only transmit in one direction. When the power source transmits the passive element, it can only transmit in one direction. If the power source changes direction (such as from clockwise to counterclockwise), the power transmission function of the passive element will stop transmitting.
Functional characteristics of one-way clutch:
1. Indexing and positioning function
It is mainly used to transmit torque intermittently, whether from a continuous rotating shaft or reciprocating linear motion by air pressure and hydraulic cylinder, to convert it into the circular motion of an intermittent (positioning) rotating shaft.
2. Overrunning
When the power output rotation (such as the inner wheel) is faster than the input power rotation (such as the outer wheel), the outer wheel will automatically disengage or stop inputting power, and will not have any linkage with the inner wheel, while the inner wheel can continue to rotate with the output power. If the input is reversed (such as the outer wheel), the power will not be transmitted to the output source (such as the inner wheel).
3. Anti-reverse and backstopping function
The main purpose is to prevent unexpected reverse rotation. Since the clutch can only transmit torque in one direction and the other direction is idling, it prevents the workpiece from moving backward when there is no power source.
